Hand-Hammered Copper Cloaks the One-Off GFG Style Peralta D Grand Tourer

GFG Style Peralta D Grand Tourer Maserati
Fabrizio Giugiaro and GFG Style built the Peralta D as a one-off 2+2 grand tourer for Mexican collector Carlos Peralta. The car follows the earlier Peralta S, which used an aluminum body on a mid-engine Maserati MC20 and was dedicated to Peralta’s sons. This new version carries the letter D for his daughters and also for the Italian word donne.

The car’s exterior is made up entirely of hand-hammered copper panels. The metal is installed on a carbon fiber framework that sits atop a more typical aluminum chassis and engine package, similar to what you’d find in a front-engine Maserati GranTurismo. And you can tell it’s a Maserati from the rear, where there are four tailpipes indicating that this car still has a nice old twin-turbo V6 under the hood. There was not a single drop of electricity to be seen.

It has a traditional wedge silhouette, beginning with the front wheel arches and ending in a sharp point at the back. The way it’s done is really wonderful; large sheets of tinted copper-colored glass sweep up into the roof, which then opens in either gull-wing parts or all at once, allowing you to easily access the front seats. The rear passengers enter through similar gull-wing doors that open up diagonally, much like Giorgetto Giugiaro did with the engine cover on the 1960s De Tomaso Mangusta. What’s on the front is just as amazing, with a large full-width LED light bar, honeycomb mesh on the lower intake, and those slick fender-mounted mirrors on top of some great-looking anthracite-black wheels.

Inside, the seats are upholstered in luxurious brown leather with subtle copper-thread stitching and gold-toned accents for added glitter. In the glovebox, there’s an illuminated vanity mirror and some place to put your cosmetics, while under the back seats is a charming small compartment with a champagne bottle and some matching copper glasses carefully tucked away.

Things kicked off on October 24 at the Pastejé Automotive Invitational in Mexico, and now this stunning car is part of Carlos Peralta’s amazing collection. The car was designed and built by the excellent guys at GFG Style, which is the new studio Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro founded in Turin in 2015 after leaving Italdesign. Fabrizio Giugiaro stated that the idea came from the same partnership that created the Peralta S, with the goal of combining clean lines and crisp surfaces with practical features such as the ability to fit four adults comfortably.
