Feiyu Pocket 4 Provides Affordable Steady 4K Filming When Latest DJI Models Remain Unavailable

Feiyu Pocket 4 Camera Launch
FeiyuTech has released the Pocket 4, a compact three-axis gimbal camera that ships from its own store for $299 in the standard kit. Buyers who cannot easily get the newest DJI Osmo Pocket models now have a ready alternative that records 4K video at 60 frames per second, stabilizes footage with a mechanical gimbal, and stores everything on 111 GB of built-in memory. The body folds to roughly 140 by 52 by 32 millimeters and weighs 205 grams, so it slips into a jacket pocket without bulk.

A 2.64-inch square touch screen operates the camera; simply pull it down to switch it on and view the scene, or push it up to cover the lens and place the camera in a protective case. You don’t need a separate case or clamp to transport it, owing to magnetic sensors that make the changeover simple. The screen itself displays a great, natural 4:3 picture; simply switch to 16:9 or vertical 9:16 frame to get a wider shot in.

Inside, a 50 megapixel 1/1.55 inch CMOS sensor is paired with a fixed focus 110 degree lens at f/2.2, which is a standard combination for this sort of camera. Still photos have a maximum resolution of 8192 by 6144 pixels and can be saved as JPEG, JPG + DNG. The maximum video resolution is 4K 60fps, but you can also choose 2.7K or 1080p, which allows you to film at 120 frames per second in full HD. The maximum bitrate is 80 Mbps, all contained within an MP4 file. The ISO ranges from 100 to 3200, and the electronic shutter operates from 16 seconds to 1/8000th of a second. There is no focusing on this model, but if you’re shooting close subjects, the wide lens will handle depth of field for you. All of this is handled by a HiSilicon processor and some strong AI tracking, which can keep up with moving objects without requiring any phone assistance.

You can pan the camera smoothly for up to 450 degrees, which is a large orbit and a high tilt. There are three modes to choose from: lock it in place, pan and tilt, or simply pan. The maximum speed is 180 degrees per second. Battery life is around 2.5 hours at 1080p30 and 1.5 hours at 4K60, albeit these figures are obtained in a controlled setting. However, the battery charges quickly, taking about 95 minutes on average. A standard USB-C port handles file transmission and webcam mode, while 5GHz Wi-Fi connects you to the Feiyu app for remote preview and phone motion control. There are built-in mics that record at 48 kHz AAC; however, the Creator Kit includes an external mic, a battery handle, and a tripod.

It has 128 GB of built-in eMMC storage, of which approximately 111 GB are usable. It can keep a lot of 1080p30 footage, roughly 875 minutes, or nearly three hours of 4K at high bitrate, so offload when possible. Plus, keep in mind that the camera is not fully waterproof either. When compared to the DJI Osmo Pocket 4, the Feiyu is less expensive, has a larger screen, includes an integrated cover, and has the same storage capacity as the DJI model. If you’re only shooting vacation videos or social media clips and don’t require sophisticated features like log profiles in 10-bit color, the Feiyu is a perfectly viable alternative because it’s less expensive and available now stateside.
