Gran Turismo 7 Fan Port in Unreal Engine 5 Outruns the PS5 Emulator

A YouTuber known as SvenX. has begun rebuilding Gran Turismo 7 inside Unreal Engine 5, and the early side-by-side footage already shows the custom version clearing higher frame rates than the same game running through a PS5 emulator on identical hardware.

So far, he’s made progress on two cars and two tracks, one of which is Trial Mountain. SvenX has his priorities straight, starting with the old graphics and interface screens and ensuring that the original sound is included before moving on to the menu system in all of its original grandeur. Yes, that includes support for NVIDIA’s RTX 4000 series cards using DLSS 5, as well as multi frame generation.

Testing took place on a machine with an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080, and 32 GB of RAM. Check out the comparative video, and you’ll notice that the Unreal Engine 5 version runs at over 80 frames per second, whereas the KyTyPS5 emulation runs at around 33 frames per second on identical hardware. The footage also illustrates what occurs when the UE5 build is run with DLSS quality and frame creation enabled and disabled.

Overall, the visual differences are fairly minor, but there is a difference in reflections in the original game, and distant objects that appear incomplete or without shadows are most likely due to current emulator limitations rather than something wrong with the PS5 version.

SvenX has framed the entire operation as an experiment. Gran Turismo 7 launched with rather good performance on the PS5, and the main purpose here is simply to test how the same content works when run in a completely different engine. There is no news on when the public will be able to view a demo or when the work on this will be more refined, but for the time being, fidelity is the priority. This is a big departure from Gran Turismo 7’s PC support, which was never formally announced despite substantial controversy. This enabled the evolution of PS5 emulation and fan ports like this one. The KyTyPS5 emulator has already performed a whole race, however frame rates remain significantly lower than if it were running natively on the same hardware.
