McDonald’s China Fry Mark Mouse Turns Recycled Happy Meal Toys Into Limited Desk Gear

McDonald's China Limited Edition Fry Mark Mouse Computer
McDonald’s China and Lenovo just put a wireless mouse on sale that looks exactly like a carton of fries. The Fry Mark carries the familiar red-and-yellow box shape, with a top shell molded into a cluster of golden fries and the golden arches sitting on the base. Over sixty percent of that outer casing comes from plastic recovered from old Happy Meal toys.

Old toys are fed into a system that classifies, disassembles, and processes them inside Lenovo’s supply chain before being recycled back into useable plastic. McDinans China refers to this bigger endeavor as the Reimagine Good items program, which began in 2021 and has since transformed broken toys into trays, flower pots, fluffy items, and even employee uniforms. This mouse is the latest step in that same loop, announced as a joint project back in June.

Inside the old fry box, you’ll discover conventional wireless components. It has a dual mode connection, either Bluetooth or a 2.4 Ghz USB dongle, quiet click buttons that won’t bother anyone, three DPI levels to experiment with, and a 380 mAh battery to keep it going. Each one has a cloth travel pouch that unrolls to reveal a matching mousepad. To ensure that you know it’s eco-friendly, the packaging is made of durable cardboard rather than plastic.

Only 4,000 of these devices were made. They went on sale on October 22 and 23, via the McDonald’s China app and WeChat, with 2,000 appearing at a time, beginning at 10.45 a.m. each day. The price was 99 yuan (approximately $14-15), with an additional 18 points if you were a member, and you could only buy two at a time. By the time the first lot arrived, over 6,000 people had already requested one, and the entire batch was quickly sold out. There has been no announcement of an international release yet.

Demand outran supply before any units left the warehouse, which suggests the combination of recognizable branding and the recycled origin pulled more interest than a plain mouse would have. Whether the ridiculous shape is comfortable enough for lengthy sessions is up to someone to find out and try, but one thing is certain: the Fry Mouse is now a super-rare collectible that also allows you to game with.
